Management information systems specifically designed for the print industry offer users the ability to streamline business workflow for a more efficient, productive, and profitable operation.Like a highway infrastructure directing traffic, print management information systems (MIS) are dedicated to managing the entire print process. Many of the Print MIS systems in the marketplace today originated as custom development initiatives as print shop owners realized they needed help tracking different processes, such as quoting, billing, and inventory control. This creates the fragmented market that we see today, as a certain print MIS are is typically focused on requirements of specific size/type of printers.
These customized products have evolved into dozens of different solutions, and since there are so many available, it is important to evaluate your current and future needs.

final question # 4

TOPIC: THE KNOWLEDGE - BASED SYSTEMS (KBS)Question # 3: 1. Describe or define KBS.2. Distinguish KBS from MIS.3. Illustrate (give examples) how KBS can improve company's competitive advantage and organizational performance.

Knowledge-Based System is a computer system that is programmed to imitate human problem-solving by means of artificial intelligence and reference to a database of knowledge on a particular subject.

The most important aspect of a knowledge base is the quality of information it contains. The best knowledge bases have carefully written articles that are kept up to date, an excellent information retrieval system (such as a search engine), and a carefully designed content format and classification structure while in MIS, Managers ensure the availability, continuity, and security of data and information technology services in their organizations. In this capacity, they oversee a variety of user services such as an organization’s help desk, which employees can call with questions or problems. MIS directors also may make hardware and software upgrade recommendations based on their experience with an organization’s technology.

For example. Information overload is a critical problem in both military and commercial decision-making processes. Knowledge based systems provide a flexible, user definable and highly scalable solution to these problems by wedding intelligent multi-agent software with a user-focused graphical interface to provide improved decision making in dynamic environments and improved situational awareness. This approach lends itself to many potential applications in both the military and commercial sectors.
